The year 1948, Dal Gretenburg having returned from his service as an fighter aircraft mechanic in WWII. Returning to Balboa, Dal founded Fun Zone Boat Company just south of its current location at the Newport Harbor Nautical Museum docks.  Dals' business did well enough for him to watch it soon grow to 3 boats.  1940's Hollywood stars just as popular as the current celebrities that live and cruise on the bay.

In 1970 Dal and his daughter Dorothy brought a new vessel into Newport Bay, the companies 4th. The boat being our new Tiki, based on the hull design of our Queen, themed  as a "Tiki" party  vessel. When she arrived was affectionately dubbed the “TikiBoat” by her crew.  The name still used by current captains 40 Coast Guard annual inspections later. The USCG and Fun Zone Boat Company being active partners in providing safe harbor voyages for our passengers for  the past 60 years.

Tiki was the first U.S. Coast Guard Inspected charter boat in Newport Bay.  The beginnings of the Newport Bay Charter Boat industry.

In 2000 Tikiboat again was first in having the first website devoted to a charter boat on Newport Bay. The new form of media also lent itself to TikiBoats' fresh new marketing approach. A new venture in online pricing with no hidden charges.

Today the team at Fun Zone Boat Company invite you to join us on our latest TikiBoat first, automated online  availability and booking  for your event.  We also invite you to tour the newly restored Tiki… We have taken great pride to "spiff her up" and bring her back to Dals’ vision of a themed charter boat 1970’s style.
